Proportion that suits your face comes before size.

The lips are where small differences show the most. A few millimetres of height difference or a corner that tilts to one side can change your whole expression.

Lip filler at Serene Clinic does not start with adding volume. We first look at lip height and width, symmetry, the ratio of upper to lower lip, and how the lips relate to the philtrum.

Then Dr. Kim Serim personally chooses the filler type, amount and placement to refine the lip line and expression naturally.

LIP FILLER

What is lip filler?

Lip filler places hyaluronic acid (HA) filler in the lips and along the lip line to refine volume, contour and symmetry.

It is injected in small amounts with a fine needle or cannula. Serene Clinic combines numbing cream with a small local anesthetic injection and uses lidocaine-containing filler to greatly reduce pain.

Hyaluronic acid filler can be dissolved with an enzyme if needed, which makes it well suited to adjusting little by little toward a natural shape.

DESIGN

Why the same 1 cc can give different results

With lip filler, where it goes decides the shape more than how much. Before injecting, Serene Clinic looks at the following.

01

Upper-to-lower lip ratio

The same amount looks completely different depending on the upper-to-lower thickness ratio. We set the ratio that suits your face first.

02

Left–right symmetry

Most lips differ slightly in height and volume from side to side. We do not inject equally; we split the amount to the difference.

03

Mouth corners and lip line

Drooping corners and a blurred lip line are often a contour issue rather than volume. When needed, we design mouth-corner Botox alongside.

04

Relation to philtrum and chin

We look beyond the lips — philtrum length, chin position, profile — so the lips look natural within the whole face.

ASSESSMENT

Lip assessment before injection

We decide what to change before deciding how much to add.

We check the lips from the front and side, and while smiling and speaking, because asymmetry often shows more with expression than at rest.

What we check before injection

  • Left–right lip height and volume
  • Upper-to-lower lip ratio
  • Direction of the mouth corners
  • Philtrum length and profile
  • Asymmetry with expression
  • Previous filler history

We first hear the shape you want, in words or photos, then agree on what suits your face. For first-timers we recommend starting small and adjusting.

COMPARISON

Volume design vs contour design

Lip filler is designed differently depending on what you want to change. Even with the same filler, placement and depth differ.

Which design suits you?

Many people want both, but usually one matters more. Refining contour before volume can change your look a lot with only a small amount.

Which design fits is decided after examination, looking at the proportions of the whole face.

DOSAGE

Lip filler: up to 1 cc · 1 cc or more

Is up to 1 cc enough?

When the goal is refining contour such as the lip line or corners, or for a first treatment, we often use only as much as needed within 1 cc.

When is 1 cc or more considered?

When adding volume to thin lips as well, or treating both upper and lower lips. Building up gradually looks more natural than filling all at once.

At Serene Clinic cc is the result of the design, not the goal. Whether a Korean or imported filler suits you is also decided together, based on your lips and how long you want results to last.

COMBINATION

Our approach to combination treatment

The impression of the lips is not set by the lips alone. Looking at surrounding muscles and facial proportions together gives a more natural result.

Drooping mouth corners

Reduce the pull of the depressor muscles with mouth-corner Botox, then support the corners with filler.

Asymmetric lips

We design different amounts and placement for each side.

Long philtrum, recessed chin

We consider philtrum and chin filler together to balance the profile.

Overall facial asymmetry

Within our facial asymmetry design, the lips are balanced as the final detail.

The actual treatment plan is decided during consultation.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

01How long does lip filler last?

Because the lips move a lot, filler there tends to absorb faster than elsewhere. How long it lasts depends on the filler type, amount and your metabolism; we explain by product at consultation.

02Will it swell a lot?

Swelling builds for 3–4 days after treatment, then gradually subsides, and has largely settled by about day 7–8. If bruising occurs, asymmetry can look more pronounced while swollen. When a lot of filler is placed near the mucosa to unroll inverted lips, swelling can be stronger and the lips may look uneven for a while. It is best to judge the shape once the swelling has gone down.

03Does it hurt?

After applying enough numbing cream we also give a small local anesthetic injection and use lidocaine-containing filler, which greatly reduces pain. How it feels varies by person.

04What if the lips look uneven while swollen?

Unevenness during the swelling period can be smoothed by molding. However, a touch-up to correct asymmetry is done at least one week later, once the swelling has settled and the true shape can be seen.

05What if I don't like the shape?

Hyaluronic acid filler can be dissolved with an enzyme. We review the shape together after the swelling settles and adjust if needed.

06Do I need mouth-corner Botox too?

We only recommend it when the muscles pulling the corners down are strong. It is not needed for everyone.
