Not all radiofrequency works the same way.

Opus is a 40.68 MHz unipolar radiofrequency platform by Alma Lasers of Israel. Without a grounding pad, it uses an electromagnetic field to heat deeper skin layers evenly, and tips are changed to suit the goal.

Serene Clinic uses the UniFace tip for the face and, for the body, the UniBody tip — the same principle, but delivering much stronger energy at once.

Even with the same Opus, energy and technique change with skin thickness, how firm the subcutaneous tissue is and how prone you are to puffiness. Dr. Kim Serim assesses the face first, then designs the treatment.

OPUS

What is Opus?

Opus unipolar RF heats tissue with a 40.68 MHz electromagnetic field, without a grounding pad. Energy spreads evenly over a wide area instead of concentrating at one point, reaching the dermis and subcutaneous tissue without overheating the surface.

The UniFace tip delivers RF through a Spin Activator that rotates while pressing on the skin, adding compression and rotation to the heat. A session takes about 10 minutes and is usually done without anesthesia.

A 2026 study in Lasers in Medical Science treated 30 adults with mild to moderate facial laxity three times at four-week intervals, and measured reduced volume in the cheeks, jawline and submental area along with improved firmness indices.

TIPS

Opus tips at Serene Clinic

Opus changes role with the tip. Facial contour and firmness, the body, and skin texture are each handled with a different tip.

UniFace · facial lifting

A rotating Spin Activator heats the whole face evenly to help refine contour, firmness and puffiness — an option for thicker skin or for those who felt little change with other RF.

UniBody · body firmness

A body-only tip that works on the same principle as UniFace but delivers much stronger energy at once. It sends enough heat into wide, thick body areas — arms, abdomen, thighs — to manage firmness and contour.

RF Pixel · skin texture

A fractional RF tip that uses phase-shifting technology to split energy across several depths, from the deep dermis to subcutaneous tissue. It is used for texture, pores, fine lines and shallow scars.

DESIGN

Why the same kJ can give different results

Opus doses are shown as total energy (kJ), but where and how that energy is used matters more. Before treatment, Serene Clinic looks at the following.

01

Skin and subcutaneous thickness

For thick skin with firm subcutaneous tissue we let heat reach deeper; for thin faces we adjust energy so volume is preserved.

02

Tendency to puffiness

For faces that swell every morning, we plan the rotating tip's pressure and direction to follow lymphatic flow.

03

Energy by area

We split energy differently between heavier areas — jawline, cheeks, under the chin — and lighter ones, and between sides if they differ.

04

Role alongside other treatments

We divide roles by layer — Onda for fat, Xerf or Ultherapy for deeper sagging — and give Opus the job of skin and contour firmness.

ASSESSMENT

Facial assessment before treatment

Before choosing the energy, we see where the face carries its weight.

Even similar sagging calls for a different Opus role and setting depending on whether puffiness, fat or loss of skin firmness is the main cause.

What we check before treatment

  • Skin thickness and subcutaneous firmness
  • Morning puffiness and lymph flow
  • Heaviness along the jawline and under the chin
  • Facial fat distribution
  • Areas where volume should be kept
  • Response to previous RF treatments

When more anatomical detail is needed, we check skin and subcutaneous thickness with ultrasound (Clarius) before setting energy and distribution.

COMPARISON

Opus vs Xerf

Both are RF lifting, but they differ in energy and in the faces they suit best. They are often used for different roles rather than as substitutes.

Opus or Xerf — which should I choose?

If thick skin, puffiness and heaviness are the main concerns, Opus can play a larger role. If deeper laxity and sagging are significant, we build the plan around Xerf.

The two are sometimes used together to address different layers. Which combination fits is decided after examination.

ENERGY

Opus 10 · 60 · 80 · 100 kJ

Is 60 kJ enough?

60 kJ is often the base for treating the whole face's contour and firmness in one session. 10 kJ is used for spot care or as an add-on to other treatments.

When are 80 kJ and 100 kJ considered?

When the skin is thick and heavy areas are wide, or when the under-chin and neck are included. But more energy is not the only answer — sometimes splitting with another device works better.

At Serene Clinic kJ is the result of the design, not the goal. The study used three sessions four weeks apart; the actual number and interval depend on your skin.

COMBINATION

Our approach to combination lifting

Aging changes skin, fat and supporting structures together. Dividing roles by layer often works better than pushing one Opus setting higher.

Heavy lower face with more fat

Reduce the fat layer with Onda, then refine contour and firmness with Opus.

Deep sagging + loss of skin firmness

Treat the deeper layers with Xerf or Ultherapy and the skin's surface firmness with Opus.

Frequently puffy face

Manage circulation and tissue condition with Opus's rotating tip and Levinas shockwave.

Body firmness

Plan area by area — arms, abdomen, thighs — with the UniBody tip.

The actual treatment plan is decided during consultation.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

01What is Opus?

A lifting treatment using Alma Lasers' 40.68 MHz unipolar RF device, delivering even heat to deeper skin layers with a rotating tip to help with contour, firmness and puffiness.

02Is it the same as a de-puffing massage?

You may feel less puffy right away, but the key is that it is an RF treatment delivering even heat to deeper layers to stimulate collagen renewal.

03Does it hurt, and is there downtime?

It feels like a warm massage, so most people have it without anesthesia. Temporary redness or mild swelling can occur but usually settles quickly, and you can resume daily life right away.

04How many sessions do I need?

The study used three sessions four weeks apart. The actual number is decided at your consultation based on skin condition and goals.

05Can I combine it with Onda or Xerf?

Yes. We often divide roles by layer: Onda for fat, Xerf for deeper sagging, and Opus for skin and contour firmness.

06How is UniBody different from UniFace?

The principle is the same, but UniBody delivers much stronger energy at once, so it can efficiently send enough heat into body areas that are wider and thicker than the face.

07How much is Opus at Serene Clinic?

Current Opus options and prices are on the Lifting page. The right energy is decided after consultation. See Lifting prices

08Can international patients be treated?

Yes. Serene Clinic offers consultations in English, Chinese and Japanese, and you can request a booking directly on our website before visiting Seoul. Direct Booking for International Patients

CONSULTATION

Planning a lifting treatment in Seoul?

You do not need to decide between Opus, Xerf or Onda before you visit. The consultation is for finding together the areas that truly need treatment — and those better left alone.
