Does ONDA lifting hurt? How should I care for my skin afterward?

Director Kim Serim ·

ONDA lifting is performed while continuously cooling the epidermis. So rather than the sharp pain of needle or ultrasound lifting, many people feel deep warmth. Most people can return to daily life right away. You only need to avoid strenuous exercise and saunas on the day, and strong massage.

Why is it relatively less painful?

ONDA uses microwaves to vibrate water molecules in the skin and create heat. It doesn't insert needles or focus ultrasound on one point, so during treatment it feels less like a "zap" and more like "warm, then hot."

In the handpiece, Coolwaves cooling runs continuously to lower the temperature of the epidermis. Even so, areas with many nerves, such as under the jawline or around the mouth, may feel hotter, so we adjust the energy by area while watching your response during treatment.

Before treatment, remove metal jewelry, and let us know in advance if you have filler or threads in your face. We take this into account when deciding treatment areas and energy. If you're worried about pain, tell us at any time during treatment. We'll slow down or lower the energy.

The day of treatment and the next day

Right after treatment, your face may be slightly red and feel hot, but this usually subsides within a few hours. You can wash your face and apply basic skincare and makeup right away.

Rarely, some people feel sore or slightly swollen under the jaw for a few days. This mostly improves on its own, but if you see unusual reactions such as blisters or scabs, please contact the clinic right away.

Aftercare guidelines

It's not a procedure that requires special care, but it's best to reduce irritation while the heated tissue recovers.

  • On the day, avoid strenuous exercise, saunas, hot packs or jjimjilbang, and alcohol.
  • Your skin may become dry, so apply moisturizer more often than usual.
  • Apply sunscreen carefully.
  • For 1–2 weeks, avoid massage or facial massage therapy that presses hard on the face.
  • Drinking enough water and sleeping well help recovery.

Changes appear in this order

Right after, you may feel a tightening sensation. Over the following weeks, skin texture and firmness change little by little. Changes in the fat layer and collagen regeneration progress over 1–3 months, so it's best to watch for at least a month before judging results.

The extent of change and how long it lasts vary by individual. We decide the timing of the next treatment together at consultation after seeing the results.

ONDA is also often planned together with other lifting treatments. For example, ONDA addresses the fat layer, and ultrasound lifting complements sagging in the fascia layer. In that case, we set the order and interval considering the recovery of both treatments.

Frequently asked questions

Do you apply numbing cream?

It's mostly done without anesthesia. If you're sensitive to heat, we adjust the energy and speed, and if needed, use another method after consultation.

Can I wear makeup after treatment?

Yes, you can wash your face and apply basic skincare and makeup right away. If redness remains, please use low-irritation products.

When can I exercise?

Light activity is fine from the same day. We recommend waiting until the next day for exercise that makes you sweat a lot and for saunas.
